Sike! When did random amalgamations of letters and sometimes numbers begin to mean the difference between having an awesome customizable blog and having to settle for some foolproof (oh, we'll see) operation in the low-rent district (why you gotta pay to be hosted, huh?)? "PHP"? Is that what the kids on the block are peddlin' these days? And "MySQL"? Well, I guess if ya gotta catch 'em all...
Anyway, no WordPress at the moment for me. But here's how I landed my own gig on Google's totally usable Blogger: Last night, my roommate (and boyfriend), Emma, was fretting over a text message. This text message was to be sent to a boy that has taken her on a second date. He had texted her an innocuous message, to which she felt compelled to craft the perfect response. Something easy breezy. Effortlessly clever. Not over the top. Long story short, I spent half-an-hour agonizing, trying to come up with the perfect 160 character concoction. We were getting into the nuances of text message communication (the age-new "..." vs. the "?" debate), exerting some amount of brain power (what else can be found under one's skirt?) and sifting through the duds, like:
"OMG!! I'm getting a sex change too!"
"Sexy Latin skirt, huh? Can't wait to see what's underneath ... and by that I mean your feet."
"Is ... is my penis getting hard?"
Eventually we landed on something or other, but this little episode served a purpose other than ensuring my roommate (and boyfriend) came up with a text witticism appropriate for the early stages of a relationship; it also reenforced a general craving I've been having lately for more structured creativity (as oxy-moronic as that comes across) in my life. So now I, Wandering Dreamstress, have a blog, and this blog is going to keep me accountable for self-produced art, be it stories, videos, cartoons, paintings, photos, drawings along with any other creative endeavors I'm not sure I'm fully equipped to do very well at all. Oh, and I'm also going to master the hell out of WordPress ... just not tonight.
